EU rules for movement between Member States of germinal products of dogs and cats

It is with great pleasure – and pride – that I can inform you that the very tiresome and expensive rules for transport of semen between EU member countries are cancelled as of 9 April 2023. The rules have been a great damage to the exchange of semen between the countries, and the exchange of these products have more or less stopped for the past 2 years.

This means that veterinary control in connection with collection of semen stops. The EU has simply deleted the regulations.

For more than 2 years the Europe Section has – together with Professor Catharine Linde Forsberg from Sweden and a European cat organization – worked to have these regulations removed. We have by the aid of our lobby consultancy firm, Kellen Europe, pressed the EU Veterinary Authorities and the efforts have been successful.

It is now up to the individual EU countries to make their own rules and I recommend that you, as NCOs, contact the relevant authorities in your countries to obtain flexible rules on this area.

Best regards
FCI Europe Section
